Methodist Girls' School (MGS)

By: Loren, in Category: Secondary

Methodist Girls' School (MGS) was founded in 1887 by Miss Sophia Blackmore, who came to Singapore as a Methodist missionary. MGS was originally a school for girls of all races, but in 1924, it became a school exclusively for girls of the Methodist faith. Today, MGS is a premier secondary school for girls with a strong academic and values-based education.

MGS has consistently achieved excellent academic results, with a PSLE AL score range of 8-15 points. The school also offers a wide range of Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs), including sports, music, drama, and community service. The school has also received numerous accolades for its outstanding achievements, including the School Excellence Award, the Best Practice Award for Character and Citizenship Education, and the Lee Hsien Loong Award for Innovations in the Teaching and Learning of Mother Tongue Languages.

Notable alumni of MGS include former President of Singapore, Halimah Yacob, and former Member of Parliament, Tin Pei Ling.

MGS is located in Bukit Timah, a residential area in the central region of Singapore. It is easily accessible by public transportation, with several bus stops and the Tan Kah Kee MRT station within walking distance.
